The ݮƵ (PUP) and the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) have formally joined forces to advance botanical research and education through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on April 7, 2025, at the National Museum of Fine Arts Boardroom.
The agreement unites two prominent institutions in botanical science—the ݮƵHerbarium (PUPH), operating under the Research Institute for Science and Technology (RIST), and the Philippine National Herbarium (PNH), a division of the NMP’s Botany and National Herbarium Division. The collaboration will encompass virtual engagements, joint research initiatives, academic exchanges, and shared access to botanical materials and resources.
Leading the MOU signing were ݮƵPresident Dr. Manuel M. Muhi and NMP Director General Jeremy R. Barns, joined by NMP Deputy Director General for Museums Jorell M. Legaspi, Museum Curator I Jhaydee Ann F. Pascual, ݮƵVice President for Research, Extension and Development Dr. Anna Ruby P. Gapasin, RIST Director Dr. Armin S. Coronado, and ݮƵHead Curator Ma. Eleanor C. Salvador.
“This partnership with the National Museum of the Philippines reflects our deep commitment to advancing scientific research and education. Together, we aim to preserve our natural heritage and foster a stronger culture of environmental awareness,” Dr. Muhi said.
Echoing the same spirit of collaboration, Director General Barns remarked, “The National Museum is honored to collaborate with PUP. Through our combined expertise and resources, we hope to deepen our understanding of the Philippines’ botanical richness and work toward its long-term conservation.”
The signing of the MOU marks a significant step in uniting academic and cultural institutions toward the shared goal of conserving the country’s diverse plant life. It underscores the role of research partnerships in addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development through education and science.
